June’s book of the month was a real treat! I had the pleasure of diving into The Lady Thief of Belgravia by Allison Grey, marking my first real foray into audiobooks. I listened to it on Spotify while staining our pergola, and it was wonderful to have something fun and exciting to keep me entertained while my hands were busy. Kudos to the narrator Katy Sobey! She was so engaging that it felt like I had a friend with me throughout the project.
London, 1879. The city’s most notorious pickpocket is about to become the jewel of high society…
Della Rose learned her trade as a pickpocket on the vice-ridden streets of the notorious Seven Dials. But when the handsome Cole Winthrop offers her a huge sum of money to steal from his arch nemesis, the nefarious Duke of Salisbury, it seems Della’s days of deceit and thievery could soon be behind her.
To do the job she must go undercover as a member of high society, learning to walk, talk, ride and flirt like a lady. Which also means pretending to be Cole’s cousin…
As an undeniable attraction grows between them, Della must fight to stay focused. Succeeding in her mission could be her ticket to a new life. And this thief won’t let the small matter of falling madly in love get in her way…
From the very beginning, I found myself drawn into the intimate relationship between the main characters. The author masterfully blends mystery and romance, creating a narrative that is both thrilling and heartwarming. The scenes were so well written that I often felt like I was watching a movie, and I was completely immersed. (You know, while staining my pergola). One of the standout aspects of The Lady Thief of Belgravia is the strong and intelligent leading lady, Della Rose. I thoroughly enjoyed following her journey and seeing her navigate the challenges she faced as a poor pickpocket in victorian England.
There were several spicy moments throughout the audiobook that made me literally exclaim “OH MY!” out loud. I’d rate the spice level a 3/5.
Final Thoughts
Overall, The Lady Thief of Belgravia is a delightful listen that combines romance, mystery, and a touch of spice. Whether you’re a fan of audiobooks or just looking for a captivating story to accompany your next project, I highly recommend giving this one a try.
