Cost-Saving Tips for Canadians Visiting Disneyland
Disneyland is the ultimate dream destination for many, but the costs can add up quickly if you’re not careful. For Canadian visitors, managing expenses while still enjoying the magic is key to having a memorable trip without breaking the bank. Here are some practical cost-saving measures to help you make the most of your Disneyland adventure.
1. Find Disney Merch at Walmart or Winners
Before you even set foot in Disneyland, consider checking out local stores like Walmart or Winners for Disney merchandise. These retailers often carry themed clothing, accessories, and souvenirs at a fraction of the price you’d pay in the park. By stocking up on Disney gear back home, you can save significantly and still sport that magical look when you arrive.
2. Make a Food Plan and Pre-Plan Your Meals
One of the easiest ways to save money at Disneyland is by planning your meals in advance. Research dining options and create a food plan that includes both in-park and out-of-park meals. Consider packing some snacks and a refillable water bottle to keep hunger at bay and avoid costly impulse purchases. For larger meals, look into nearby off-site restaurants where prices can be more reasonable compared to the park’s dining options.
3. Avoid Overspending on Trinkets
It’s tempting to buy every charming trinket and souvenir in sight, but these small purchases can add up quickly. Set a budget for souvenirs before you enter the park and stick to it. Look for more affordable souvenirs, such as keychains or postcards, which can still serve as wonderful mementos without straining your wallet. Avoid pin trading at all costs! Its amazing, you’ll want every pin and suddenly you’ve spent $600 on pins you wear around your neck only when you’re at Disney. Not that I’m speaking from experience or anything (lol!)
4. Use Disney Gift Cards
To manage your spending and avoid additional service fees, purchase Disney gift cards before your trip. These cards can be used for park purchases, dining, and even merchandise. By using gift cards, you can keep track of your expenses more easily and avoid the extra fees that come with using your credit card for every transaction.
5. Skip the Fancy Drinks and Coffees
While Disneyland offers a variety of specialty drinks and coffees, these can often be as pricey as a meal or snack. If you can, skip the fancy coffees and sugary drinks, which can leave you feeling over-sugared and sluggish. Save your money for treats that are unique to the park or are a must-try, like the iconic Dole Whip. This refreshing pineapple treat is a Disneyland classic and worth every penny, making it a special indulgence that’s worth the splurge.
