No Heat Until Taylor: Heatless Curls

Due to my extreme overuse of heat, I’ve been struggling with stagnant hair growth and constant breakage. I decided it was time for a major change. Starting in August and continuing until December 7, (when I’ll be seeing Taylor Swift in Vancouver!), I’ve committed to a no-heat hair styling routine. The goal is to give my hair a much-needed break and see if it can thrive without the daily stress of heat styling. I’m hoping for another 3-4 inches of length, and I’m determined to get there this time. Here’s a look at my journey so far, the products I’m using, and the results I’ve experienced.

Satin Rollers

One of the first changes I made was to swap out my curling iron for Kitch satin rollers. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the results. Satin rollers are a fantastic alternative that not only creates beautiful curls but also minimizes heat damage. They took some time to figure out, but eventually I got the hang of it, especially when I learned what products to us. The satin material is gentle on my hair, reducing frizz and breakage while keeping my curls looking defined and bouncy.

Product Lineup

Here’s a rundown of the products that are helping me maintain and nourish my hair:

  1. Shampoo and Conditioner: Maria Nila Soft Shampoo and Conditioner I’ve switched to Maria Nila’s Soft Shampoo and Conditioner, which have been great for my hair. They’re designed to be gentle and moisturizing, perfect for keeping my hair soft and manageable. The formulas are free from sulfates and parabens, making them a healthier choice for my hair.
  2. Olaplex Bonding Oil Once a week, I apply Olaplex Bonding Oil to help strengthen and repair my hair. This oil is renowned for its ability to reduce breakage and improve overall hair health. It’s become a crucial part of my weekly routine, providing a boost of nourishment and ensuring my hair stays strong.
  3. Design Me Gloss Me Serum I use the Design Me Gloss Me Serum three times a week to add shine and smoothness to my hair. This serum helps to enhance the natural luster of my hair while keeping it frizz-free. It’s a great addition to my regimen for maintaining healthy-looking hair.
  4. Satin Bonnet To protect my hair while I sleep, I’ve been using a satin bonnet. This simple step helps to reduce friction and prevent breakage, ensuring that my curls stay intact and my hair remains smooth. The satin material is gentle on my hair, helping to preserve the results of my no-heat styling routine.

I’ll admit, it’s been a challenging commitment to make, but in true Camillia fashion, I’ve dived in with both feet. So far, I’m happy with my no-heat styling journey, though my focus is starting to waver. My hair feels healthier, with less breakage, and the satin rollers have given me curls that look just as stylish as those created with heat tools. The combination of Maria Nila’s shampoo and conditioner, Olaplex Bonding Oil, Design Me Gloss Me Serum, and a satin bonnet has noticeably improved my hair’s texture and appearance.

If you’re facing similar hair concerns, I highly recommend trying no-heat styling. It’s a worthwhile investment in your hair’s health and can deliver beautiful, lasting results.
